Lenoir County EMS

Department of Emergency Services

Lenoir County EMS (Emergency Medical Services) was formed on July 2001. Prior to July 2001, emergency medical services were provided by Lenoir Memorial Hospital EMS in Kinston. Lenoir County EMS provides paramedic care to the residents of Kinston and Lenoir County. We also assist surrounding counties when requested, through mutual aid agreements.

Lenoir County EMS (LCEMS) has provided and continues to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care in our community.  Through vigorous continuing education and training, LCEMS has some of the most liberal patient care protocols/procedures available in the pre-hospital setting. A high percentage of our staff have obtained certifications that are above and beyond general state paramedic requirements, i.e. National Registry status (NREMT-P) and Critical Care Training (CCEMT-P).

LCEMS currently mans (5) stations throughout the county. Each station houses a paramedic ambulance with at least two crew members. Each shift consists of five ambulance crews and a supervisor on a QRV (quick response vehicle). For more info about EMS stations and there locations, click here.

Our services are activated through the Lenoir County Central Communications Center by dialing 911. We are assisted in the field by our local fire departments through the county's first responder program. The first responder program is vital to our success in patient outcomes, and is credited with a number of field saves.

LCEMS provides support for local educational/outreach programs through partnerships with Lenoir Memorial Hospital, Kinston Dept of Public Safety, N.C. Highway patrol, local health care alliances, and many others. We participate in the Teen Aware, Vial of Life, and The Safe Kids coalition.

LCEMS is a division of Lenoir County Emergency Services, along with its sister agencies: Central Communications, and the Fire Marshal's office. We consist of 40+ full-time staff members, 20-30 part-time members, and several volunteers in response districts' 5 and 6.
